I have no idea what is wrong with me. I have had a really difficult time lately with getting up and running. Looking back, I think this started when I decided that I wasn't going to run outside in the dark anymore. (I got a little freaked out by an encounter with a stranger a few months ago on an early morning run. Even though I don't think he was a danger to me, it still made me re-consider the safety of running in the dark by myself.)
We have an old treadmill which I know we are blessed to have, but I am not a fan. I get bored and just want to be done. Plus, for some strange reason, I don't run as fast on the treadmill as I do on the road, so in the same time I used to run, I don't get as many miles in, and that is frustrating.
Excuses, excuses. I know.
There is no reason I can't get off my lazy butt and run.

I get into running funks (that's what I call them) all the time. I have found that the important thing is to not stop. Just keep running even when you don't feel like it. You eventually get your groove back. Especially if you do something awesome along the way like a PR or a training accomplishment. Keep at it. Sign up for a race. Try a new workout. Aim for something you are haven't achieved yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Frank! I got a run in last night and this morning, and I'm feeling better.
Deleteyes! I get burned out very easily. It's ok to take time off!
ReplyDeleteI think that I was feeling guilty because I have taken some time off and not logged as many miles in the past month. I need to remember that this is a journey, not a destination, and it's okay to have some weeks of lower mileage. It doesn't mean I'm a failure. Thanks for the encouragment!
DeleteOh yes. I feel this way often! Usually means you need some rest time!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mindy! I think because I already struggle sometime with thoughts that I'm not a "real runner" when I log less miles or have an off time, I feel like that's proof I'm not. It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one!
