That's what I feel like I need. At dinner Friday night, we had a discussion about weight. My teenage daughter repeated the concern that she was fat. So, I showed her with the BMI calculator that she is perfectly normal. Hubby asked about his weight, and we rounded it out with our son - all normal weight. At this point, I felt badly, knowing that my BMI is not even close to the normal range. But, since I have lost so much weight from my high of 192, my kids did not believe that I am still technically "obese." But I am.
I've got to get on track and stay there with regard to weight loss. I know that losing weight would naturally help my running, too. The only time I have ever lost weight in my life is when I have tracked everything (except when I stopped eating in high school - I'd have maybe 200-300 calories a day - and a ton of diet coke - I know, super unhealthy, and not a time in my life that I'm proud of).
The child in me HATES tracking. I want to be able to eat and drink what I want (in moderation, of course). And I guess I can if I want to be 146 pounds obese forever (I've actually maintained this weight for a year now).
But I don't want to be obese forever.
Yes, getting to a healthy weight (119 pounds is the heaviest "normal" BMI for my height) will be a challenge. And it means tracking every bite. Maybe forever.
I guess it's time for me to decide which I want more - the immediate gratification of food/drink - or the hard-earned satisfaction of acheiving a healthy weight.
I SAY I want the latter, but do my ACTIONS reflect that.
Lately, no, they haven't.
So what am I willing to do? It's all up to me.
