We didn't talk about it. I came home from an evening work meeting, and he told me he signed up for a race. An ultra. I asked if it was another 50K. I truly thought it was a 50K.
But instantly, a sheepish look came upon his face, and he said no. He told me that he saw this race on Facebook, and there were only 37 spots left, and he couldn't wait to talk about it when I got home, because it was going to fill up fast. In fact, when he signed up, there were just 5 spots left. How lucky was he that he actually got in!?
I realized it must be a 100 miler.
It was. The Thunder Rock 100, in the Cherokee National Forest. In May (when Tennessee temperatures can easily be summertime hot and humid).
That was two days ago.
I finally had the courage to check the race out tonight.
Unlike the Pistol Ultra, which was an 11-mile loop on a well-lit greenway in a park, the Thunder Rock 100 is a "challenging" trail ultra. Through a forest. Point to point. With a river crossing.
Wow.
I guess I need to get over this worrying stuff. I'll just drive myself insane.
One more goal for me for 2014!

Wow, Jen. I feel sorry for you! Lol!
ReplyDeleteBut as I was reading this, I was thinking that sounds like an awesome race, maybe I'll do it next year! :)
It's all good! He's so excited about it, that I really can't be upset. Maybe it will get easier the more he does! I personally can't imagine ever being able to do a race like this myself, so I really admire all of you brave, courageous runners who are willing to try!
DeleteWOW!!!! Your hubby sounds like a beast! I'd be worried too lol! But I'm sure he will train properly for it and do awesome! And you'll be so proud!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mindy! I know he'll do great, but I'm a worrier by nature! Definitely something I need to work on.
