Mindy at Road Runner Girl suggested I do a post on the show, so here it is!
I LOVE musicals! Hubby, on the other hand, has never understood why anyone would want to watch a movie or play where people randomly break into song. But out of the blue last year, hubby bought me tickets for my birthday to see The Lion King. He was actually dreading it, but thought his sacrifice of sitting through the show with me was an added present, lol.
He was actually blown away by the show, and realized that Broadway musicals are not so bad after all! So he told me when he found out Wicked was going to be in town so close to my birthday this year, he knew we would have to go.
We went to dinner with the kids and then drove downtown to the show. We had to take another picture outside the theatre like last year, of course!
I actually had no idea what the story was, other than I knew it had to do with the Wicked Witch and Glenda before the traditional Wizard of Oz story we all know. When we saw Lion King, we obviously both knew the storyline, but the costumes and props they used for the animals was what just blew us away. This time, I think it was the storyline and the music that enchanted me so much.
I don't want to give away anything, so I'll just keep it really general. Wicked tells the backstory of the Wicked Witch and Glenda the Good Witch. I thought that the story was genius! I laughed, I cried...the songs were so, so good, and the actors were very talented. I loved how the writers intertwined the story we all know of the Wizard of Oz, and helped the audience see how and why that story came to be, at least in their opinion.
Even hubby loved it! It was so much fun to hear him have all these a-ha moments during the show, everytime a connection was made to the Wizard of Oz.
Since last week, I have listened to the soundtrack from Wicked over and over again. I just love the music! I would absolutely go see Wicked again, and after I came home raving about it, my daughter wants to see it too. (And she has a special reason, since she was Dorothy in her school play last year!)
If you like musicals, I highly recommend seeing Wicked if you ever have the opporunity!
